OLIC Thailand - Partnership with Belgium company Besins Healthcare for manufacturing of innovative drugs with investment cost of over 75million Baht

Besins Healthcare is a pharmaceutical company specialized in the development and worldwide diffusion of innovative drugs and food supplements for the well-being of men and women throughout their life.

From the headquarters in Belgium, the company has established a strong reputation in gynecology over the last 30 years and is a renowned actor in hormonal therapies for women and men.

Besins Healthcare has its own manufacturing facilities, specializing in the production of innovative products in the fields of gynaecology, fertility and obstetrics, men’s health and nutrition. The products of the company are distributed in more than 90 countries via their own subsidiaries or a network of business partners.

Approach

Partnership between the two companies started in 2009 when a 10-year contract was signed for OLIC (Thailand) Limited to provide the manufacturing services to Besins Healthcare for a range of their hormonal medicine products, to be supplied to various countries in South East Asia and also Australia, Korea and the Japanese markets and in addition becoming the backup supplier for European and USA markets.

In order to be able to supply the product, a dedicated pharmaceutical factory has been constructed on the current OLIC (Thailand) manufacturing site and fitted with state of the art equipment for the manufacturing and packing of hormonal products. The factory was constructed in less than 8 months at a total investment cost of over 75 million Baht.

Results

The factory and equipment has undergone full qualification and validation. Stability batches and product validation trials will be completed by the end of 2010 and the first commercial products are expected to be exported from Thailand by the middle of 2011.

OLIC will also be responsible for conducting global stability trials for Besins Healthcare products to ensure their on-going compliance to regulatory requirements and will develop new products for the Besins company.
